What a way to end a Vacation…

Last Saturday we set off from the Adirondacks and headed home.  It was a beautiful day and we were looking forward to the drive through Vermont.  We LOVE the drive across Route 4,  we were amazed at the damage from flooding during Hurricane Irene last year.  I didn’t get pictures, but I am sure you could some online.

Our car had been shifting rather hard and I was worried that we might have issues on the way home.  My husband, ever optimistic thought we would be fine…  We stopped in New London, NH to have dinner at Peter Christians, one of our favorite places.

As we were pulling onto I 89, the car dutifully shifted from 1st to 2nd, and that is as far as it went.  We limped along at 35 miles an hour till the next exit, which we did not take because there were NO services!  We got to the next exit which had gas stations, grocery store, McDonalds…we pulled off and started to talk about what to do.   We were two hours from home.  The plans changed several times, but, we finally got a tow back to Dover, straight to the garage.

We had a great driver, who was chatty and fun.  We went with him to a campground so he could jump start a car.  We got a discount on our tow for the trouble!!

As far as training is going, we finished out the vacation with a 30 mile bike ride, and I did a 3.2 mile run on Saturday before we left.  It was an good run, early in the morning, cool and beautiful views of the lake!  Here are some more pictures from the lake!

Back home, training continues:

Monday: swim, 600 yards, kind of tired;   lifting: 70 squats; 3 sets of ten goblet with 10#, 2 sets of 10 with 20#, 2 sets of 10 with 30#.  36 walking lunges (body weight) Foam roll, stretch!!

Tuesday: 9.5 mile bike ride, Foam roll and stretch.

Oh, did I say I can hardly walk my legs are so sore from those squats…

Wednesday:  I stayed in bed, instead of going for a swim…walking, stairs, bending over, sitting…OUCH

Thursday:  Legs still really sore, walked 2 miles, ran 1 mile.  Feel like the kinks are getting a bit better, but only a bit…going down stairs is still hard.  Lifting was upper body, thankfully!!  Overhead press 10# each hand, 4 sets of 10. One arm rows 20# two sets of 20.  We did these side pull things with a thick band, not sure what they are called, 3 sets of 10 each side.  Shrugs, 2 sets of 10 with 20# each hand.

Who knew that squats would mess me up so much…I trained all the time on vacation, even did a few squats.

Next Triathlon is August 18, Timberman, in Alton, NH!!  No wetsuit this time!!  Anyone interested in buying a wetsuit, used about 4 – 5 times.  Xtera, women’s large.

I have also made the decision that I will not be doing the Wallis Sands Tri, but, my husband will.  I plan to run the Tufts Women’s 10K in Boston, on Columbus Day in October.  I have wanted to run this race for a long time, so going to do it this year!

    Really excited for you and your next tri! We will be going down to Boston that weekend. Maybe we could stay a night somewhere fun? Any interest?

    Darn that transmission! But awesome 30 mile ride 🙂 Sounds like you had a good time overall and it’s always NICE to get back home….no matter how you manage to get there.

      We are glad to be home…said good bye to my youngest and her husband today, they are moving to Seattle…sniff

    Sorry about the expense. Glad you had just finished your vacation so it didn’t stress you out too much.
    Good luck with the continued training! 30 mile bike ride? I’m not up to that yet! I just did 12 today. Still wondering about that duathlon in September . . . I have to decide in 2 days to save $30.
