The Long Run

January 30, 2013

Well this past weekend, I did my first longer than 6 mile run.  I lost a week around the holidays because of the flu so was behind on my long runs.  The plan I am following had me doing a 10 miler the week before the Half, but my daughter suggested doing 8, 9, 10 then 6 on Saturday the week before the Half.  I have to admit that going from 6 to 8 was a bit scary…  I could not get the run in on Saturday so I headed out after church on Sunday.  The temperature was 23 degrees (F) and a bit windy, but the sky was BLUE and I was running some country roads!  Admittedly my last two miles were much slower with more walk breaks than I would have liked, but, I did it…

Avg Pace
Summary 1:50:21.3 8.00 13:47
1 13:41.5 1.00 13:42
2 13:53.4 1.00 13:53
3 13:37.8 1.00 13:38
4 13:09.5 1.00 13:10
5 13:34.9 1.00 13:35
6 13:41.6 1.00 13:42
7 14:09.2 1.00 14:09
8 14:27.6 1.00 14:28
9 :05.7 0.00 19:45

I run 3 days a week, really that is all my aging muscles can take…and I think that only doing 6 miles the week before will leave me with fresher legs for the Half at the Hamptons.  After all these legs begin their 60th(turning 59) year in April!!!!  When I was a teenager 60 seemed ancient…not so!!!!!  Already signed up for one Triathlon this summer and we are looking at what Dubai has to offer, both for cycling and running.  Keep active my friends, that is the fountain of youth!!!!

Monday was a light lift day, a few squats, power bench, ring rows, and KB swings…

Tuesday was a 5 miler…legs were tired, but it was 35 degrees, warmed up quickly!!

This morning I went to the gym and walked 2 miles on the treadmill and then spent some time stretching.

Looks like I am flying to Dubai the Wednesday after the Half marathon.  Will be stretching really well on Monday and Tuesday!!!!  The prospect of a move, especially one this big is both exciting and scary at the same time.  We will sell our house, we have lived here for 21 years, that in itself is a daunting prospect.  This house holds many memories!!

Today is Foggy, and supposed to be in the 50’s, crazy New England Weather!!

Happy Running,

Grandma, Cindy

How do you track your time? When is your expected move date? A tri in WI? You are such an inspiration, Cindy!

Dubai!? Wow. That sounds like a blast. What is the weather like over there? Is the heat gonna be crazy? Have fun no matter what!
